서론: 우리는 흔히 감사라는 말을 단순한 감정의 표현으로 여기곤 합니다. 누군가가 우리에게 친절을 베풀거나 선물을 줄 때, 자연스럽게 “감사합니다”라고 말합니다. 그러나 성경은 ‘감사’를 단순한 말 이상의 것으로 묘사합니다. ‘감사’는 우리 안에 역사하시는 하나님의 능력과 축복을 드러내는 강력한 도구입니다. 오늘 우리는 ‘감사’를 새로운 피조물의 관점에서 바라보고, 어떻게 이것이 하나님의 축복을 선포하는 통로가 될 수 있는지 살펴보겠습니다.

첫째, 새로운 피조물로서 감사의 의미: 새로운 피조물의 삶에서 ‘감사’가 단순한 감정적 표현이 아니라 하나님의 성품이 나타나는 표출이됩니다. 우리가 그리스도 안에서 새로운 피조물이 되었을 때, 우리는 더 이상 옛 사람에 의해 제한되지 않습니다. 우리는 이제 성령의 열매를 맺으며, 그 중 하나가 감사입니다. 감사는 새로운 피조물의 본질적인 특성입니다. 우리가 하나님께 감사를 드릴 때, 우리는 우리 안에 계신 그리스도의 능력을 인정하고, 그분의 성품을 나타내며, 주님께서 이미 우리에게 주신 축복을 선포하는 것입니다. 빌립보서 1:3-4에서 바울은 빌립보 교회를 향한 감사와 함께 기도를 드립니다. “내가 너희를 기억할 때마다 나의 [하나님]께 감사를 드리고 너희 모두를 위하여 기도할 때마다 항상 기뻐하며 간구함은” 그는 단순히 “고맙다”고 말하는 것이 아니라, 감사를 통해 그들의 삶에 하나님의 은혜와 축복이 임하기를 간구하고 있습니다. 이는 감사가 곧 축복을 선포하는 통로임을 보여줍니다. 우리는 새로운 피조물로서, 감사를 통해 우리의 입술에서 선포되는 모든 것이 이루어질 수 있다는 사실을 믿습니다.

둘째, 감사는 하나님의 축복을 선포하는 행위: 헬라어로 ‘감사하다’는 뜻의(eucharisteō)는 단순한 고마움 이상의 의미를 가지고 있습니다. 이는 ‘감사의 표현을 통해 상대방에게 선을 기원하고 축복한다’는 뜻을 포함합니다. 바울은 골로새서 1:3에서 “우리가 너희를 위하여 항상 기도하며 [하나님] 곧 우리 [주] 예수 그리스도의 [아버지]께 감사를 드림은” 이는 골로새 교회에 감사하면서, 그들을 위한 기도를 담아 축복합니다. 우리가 새로운 피조물로서 감사를 표현할 때, 그 감사는 단순한 말이 아니라 하나님의 능력을 불러일으키는 강력한 선포가 됩니다. 성경은 “너희가 무엇을 하든지 말에나 일에나 다 주 예수의 이름으로 하고, 그를 힘입어 하나님 아버지께 감사하라”(골로새서 3:17)고 말씀하십니다. 이것이 바로 우리가 감사를 통해 하나님의 권능과 은혜를 선포하는 방법입니다.

셋째, 감사는 축복의 통로가 됩니다: 구약에서 히브리어 ‘תּוֹדָה’(Todah)는 감사 제사로, 이는 단순히 하나님께 고마움을 표현하는 것이 아닙니다. ‘Todah’는 하나님의 은혜와 축복을 인정하고, 그 축복이 우리와 다른 사람들에게 임하기를 선언하는 제사입니다. 야곱이 창세기 49:8에서 유다를 축복할 때, 그의 형제들이 유다를 찬송할 것이라고 말합니다. “유다야, 너는 네 형제들이 찬양할 자니라. 네 손이 네 원수들의 목을 잡을 것이요, 네 아버지의 자식들이 네 앞에서 절하리로다.”여기서 ‘찬송’이란 단순한 노래가 아니라 감사와 축복의 선언입니다. 새로운 피조물로서 우리는 우리의 삶 속에서 하나님께 드리는 모든 감사가 곧 주변 사람들에게 축복의 통로가 됨을 믿어야 합니다.

넷째, 새로운 피조물의 감사 실천: 그렇다면 우리는 어떻게 새로운 피조물로서 이 감사를 실천할 수 있을까요? 우리는 일상의 작은 일에도 감사할 수 있습니다. 그 감사가 하나님의 은혜를 인정하고, 그분의 축복이 우리의 삶에 임하도록 하는 통로가 될 것입니다. 누군가에게 “감사합니다”라고 말할 때, 우리는 그 말 속에 하나님의 축복과 은혜가 포함되어 있음을 인식해야 합니다. 우리가 감사를 통해 축복을 선포할 때, 성령께서 그 말을 통해 역사하실 것입니다.

The Thanksgiving of the New Creation: A Proclamation of God's Blessings Reflecting His Character

Introduction:

We often regard the word "thanksgiving" as a mere expression of emotion. When someone shows us kindness or gives us a gift, we naturally say, "Thank you." However, the Bible describes thanksgiving as something far more profound than just words. Thanksgiving is a powerful tool that reveals God's power and blessings at work within us. Today, we will examine thanksgiving from the perspective of the new creation and explore how it serves as a channel for proclaiming God's blessings.

1. The Meaning of Thanksgiving as a New Creation

In the life of a new creation, thanksgiving is not just an emotional response but an expression of God's character. When we became a new creation in Christ, we were no longer bound by the limitations of our old selves. Now, we bear the fruit of the Spirit, one of which is thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is an intrinsic characteristic of the new creation. When we give thanks to God, we acknowledge the power of Christ within us, reflect His character, and proclaim the blessings He has already given us.

In Philippians 1:3-4, Paul expresses gratitude for the Philippian church as he prays for them:

"I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy."

Paul is not merely saying "thank you"; rather, through thanksgiving, he intercedes for them, seeking God's grace and blessings upon their lives. This demonstrates that thanksgiving is a means of proclaiming blessings. As new creations, we believe that everything we proclaim with thanksgiving can come to pass.

2. Thanksgiving as an Act of Proclaiming God's Blessings

The Greek word for "to give thanks" (eucharisteō) carries a meaning beyond simple gratitude. It also implies expressing thanksgiving in a way that bestows goodness and blessings upon the recipient.

Paul, in Colossians 1:3, declares:

"We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you."

Here, Paul expresses gratitude for the Colossian church while simultaneously interceding and proclaiming blessings over them. When we, as new creations, express thanksgiving, it becomes more than just words—it becomes a powerful declaration that invokes God's power. The Bible teaches us:

"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." (Colossians 3:17)

This is how we proclaim God's power and grace through thanksgiving.

3. Thanksgiving Becomes a Channel of Blessing

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word תּוֹדָה (Todah) refers to the thanksgiving offering, which is more than just an expression of gratitude to God. Todah acknowledges God's grace and blessings and declares that these blessings will come upon us and others.

In Genesis 49:8, when Jacob blesses Judah, he proclaims that his brothers will praise him:

"Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s children shall bow down before you."

Here, "praise" is not merely a song but a declaration of thanksgiving and blessing. As new creations, we must believe that every act of thanksgiving we offer to God serves as a conduit for blessings to those around us.

4. Practicing Thanksgiving as a New Creation

How, then, can we practice thanksgiving as new creations? We can begin by giving thanks in small moments of daily life. Recognizing God's grace in all circumstances and expressing gratitude allows His blessings to flow into our lives.

When we say "thank you" to someone, we must realize that these words carry God's blessings and grace. As we proclaim blessings through thanksgiving, the Holy Spirit will work through our words.

Thanksgiving is not merely an emotional expression. It is a powerful tool for proclaiming God's grace and sharing His blessings with others. A life of thanksgiving glorifies God and allows His love and grace to flow through us to those around us.
